» Cooper-Hewitt Exhibition , December 8th, 2006

On December 8th, 2006 the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum opened their National Design Triennial “Design Life Now”. I was asked to produce 1 wallpaper (9′ x 20′), 4 prints (24″ x 36″), and 1 computer screen installation.

The third Triennial brings together the experimental designs and emerging ideas, at the center of American culture from 2003 to 2006. The show is running from December 8, 2006 through July 29, 2007 - and then the show comes down and goes on a nationwide tour in selected cities.

I was just in NYC and saw your stuff at the Cooper-Hewitt. I really liked it a lot, found a post card in the gift shop and bought it, to remember to look for more. Do you sell re-prints or posters of your stuff?

    Thanks!

    Peace.
I’m happy to be able to see pieces of the exhibition on the site.
Living in LA, I was not able to attend the show.
    Thank you for sharing!

hi Kris… there was no submission process. I was contacted by the Museum to have my work showcased.

I simply work day and night on making artwork.
I showcase this work on my website.
this then turned into a few magazine articles about my work
    then a few book spreads
then I was asked to speak at design conferences
    then I started teaching

13 years later… I got asked to showcase my work in the triennial.

    hope this helps,

Hi. Love the work. How did you get connected with the Cooper-Hewitt Design group? I create a lot of contemporary abstract designs and I dont know who to submit to or how. Can you offer any advice? Thanks
    Kris

They’ve never asked me Martin… since I don’t really work with figure that much - I’m not even sure how I would create one. It would just have to be abstract.

    :)

I saw this exhibit about a month ago during that first bitter cold weekend in new york. The entire exhibit was great. The giant KidRobot Munny was also a nice audience participation exercise. When are you going to get to do a KR vinyl?!!!
