I had a chance to hook up with Kanye here in New York back in January to work on some design studies.

Bear Illustration - Dustin Amery Hostetler - www.upso.org

Landscape Illustration - Alexandru Sacui - www.nosepilot.com

I’ve used Dustin for a few projects in the past, but this was my first time collaborating with Alexandru Sacui from nosepilot. I creating some floral blocking for the top and bottom, and took all of the illustrations and placed them into clips that slowed in speed as they layered to the back. A simple constrained mouse movement moves the 7 planes, creating a fake 3D feel.

The goal was to create an entire landscape that the bear walked through… revealing the different sections of the site. However, in the end, Kanye abandoned the flat vector look and wanted the environment to be built using actual clay. I have yet to find anyone who can build Alex’s Illustrations using actual clay.

what about digital modeling and outputting to rapid prototype? I’ve been modeling this type of work for a few artists, making graphite, bronze and wood objects.

Hi Josh… I think the clay idea is great. I stumbled over this clay artist’s website a few days ago. Maybe he could do that? Amazing work there: http://www.petegoldlust.com

It’s a shame this project didn’t go through I can imagine the final product would be stellar. Clay? Clay’s not baller.
