» TAG Exhibition , December 15th, 2006

On December 15th, 2006 I opened 2 shows in Amsterdam and the Hague, Netherlands — “The Brotherhoods Sacred Rose Windows”. Using the engine previously used for the Motorola KRZR campaign - I supplied a much more complex set of random shapes to populate the Kaleidoscope. This extra level of detail would have never been possible in the MotoKRZR campaign because the nature of that project had to have animation, and because of this I needed to tone down the level of detail so it would run fast.

So when Hicham asked me to do a show at his space I knew I wanted to use this engine again…mounting the work on Duratrans and suspending the work 4 inches above fluorescent lighting so that work take on a stain-glass look and feel.

Lovely …Like contemporary radiolaria! Perfect in their symmetry. Do you see these creations as living entities with an embryology or is it simply to evoke a sense of the ornamental?..or something else?! Anyways amazing work.
    Inspired.

    Hello Joshua

Have you got any plans regarding organizing something in Romania in the near future?

Our romanian-dutch-hungarian team loves your work and I think an exhibition here could make lots of people happy, as you can probably imagine.

Nice. I look forward to that.

I had a question for you. I have experimented with printing out flash to post script, and much of the time i get very jagged lines on all vectors with both mac and pc printing. I guess this is because the print drivers have to estimate the vector areas. Have you determined a way to get cleaner lines?

bob… I’m so glad you asked… I promised myself in 2007 that I would do just that. but here was the thought process.

    1. I felt initial gallery and museum presence first would be the move in the right direction first before offering prints to the public from my studio.

    2. some shows, like the TAG exhibition, you can’t even buy the work… it wasn’t for sale. TAG is a government funded exhibition space and many times projects are created but nothing sold.

    3. creating the infrastructure in my studio to be able to create, produce, and ship the work I create.

    4. How will this affect my studio ? believe me, I would love nothing more than to spend my whole day creating new programs and artwork. Can I make a living at making artwork?

but I’ve been working on this now… 2 things actually…

    1. create a new blog to document and outline the programs I use and teach in workshops. To act as a foundation resource for me to pull from to create new work.

    2. working on a new final process that uses 1. to create a new body of work that supports a specific visual style that I could offer to the public as prints. and the new Adobe CS3 print “kimono” is the first test output from this new process :

using 82 programs working in tandem to create the composition.

    timeline :

I have 1 big show coming up this June, “Tropism” in Williamsburg Brooklyn, with the Commonwealth / Maxalot crew.

After that I should be ready to rock !

Josh. I was just wondering why you have never started your own ecommerce site to sell your works. You seem to only work through galleries.

    Amazing work.
    It has some mathematical rule?
I’m brazilian designer and search Brazilian iconography.
I would like to test this technique. The illustrator makes possible this?

    Thanks

hey Ron - not for this show - the Duratrans production was done in the netherlands.

Did you print the Duratrans yourself on your Epson printer? I really like the idea of backlighting artwork and wonder if you thought of alternative methods of lighting your pieces or was mounting it 4″ above simply the most cost-effective?

    Thanks Joshua for your inspiration.

Josh, I love your art so much, where can I buy some of your pieces? They would be perfect for my apartment.
